Formerly known as Saigon (and sometimes still referred to as such), Vietnam’s capital city is home to the War Remnants Museum and Reunification Palace, both memorials from the Vietnam War (or, as it’s called there “The American War” or “The Resistance War Against America”). It also has an interesting cathedral with French architecture (rather unoriginally called the Notre Dame Cathedral), and of course your classic Southeast Asian streets and markets, where you see some of the real day to day culture. We felt that we’d had enough of Ho Chi Minh City after one full day, but then, we’re not really city people, so take that into account. I almost forgot…it also has lots of pho options, including the famous Pho 2000 restaurant where Bill Clinton has apparently eaten. I just convinced you to visit Vietnam, didn’t I?
