These hot springs have been a major draw for the area for probably hundreds of years; it’s said that native warriors came here to heal their wounds after battle. We know for certain they were the main draw for the luxurious Montezuma Hotel in the late 1800’s, when visitors traveled west on the railroad and stopped here to experience the hot springs’ healing mineral waters; the hotel can still be seen from the hot springs (and is now a part of the United World College – USA). The nicest (and cleanest) hot springs are the furthest west; there are two more sets further east that are more natural (including moss growing on the walls). The hottest of the springs are usually higher up, including the round “lobster pot” at the western group, which is 120° F. Too hot for me, my friends. Luckily there are cooler ones, and you can run down to the Gallinas for a plunge in some cold water to balance out your session.
