If you’re looking for a pleasant way to fill a couple of hours while you’re in the Glenorchy area, the Lagoon Walkway is a great option. Side note, Glenorchy is our kind of place – as beautiful as nearby Queenstown, easier access to fabulous trails (and packraft options!), and vastly fewer tourists, particularly if you stay here. Anyway, back to the walkway. It’s a neat little boardwalk/trail combo on/over/around a wetland area. Like the rest of the ridiculously attractive country, it’s very pretty, and it’s flat and suitable for families with small children. But here’s the best part: blackberries!!!! On a stroll in nearby Kinloch, we had noticed some ripe blackberries, so we were keeping an eye out for more, and boy did we find the mother load here. Obviously other people know this is a source, because most of the easy to reach bushes on the early parts of the trail were picked clean, but we were able to find an untouched area by going off trail and braving a few thorns. So, if you happen to be in the area in late summer and fancy a wee spot of foraging, this is a good bet!
