Prasat Krahom means “Red Temple” – its red color comes from the red brickstone used to construct it. It’s technically the third enclosure of Prasat Thom, but it’s often considered its own temple, partly because it’s outside of the Prasat Thom moat and partly because it’s big enough to be considered on its own. Even though it’s technically an “entryway tower” to Prasat Thom, it’s larger than any of the shrines in Prasat Thom and actually contains the largest sanctuary room in all of Koh Ker’s main temple complex. It’s known for its lion statues (few of which survive intact), which are otherwise unknown in Khmer art and architecture.
