Maligne Lake is one of the must-see sights of Jasper, and while there are some nice hikes in the area, the fishing here is also legendary. We figured what better way to get to see the lake than by boat, while also fishing? We went out with On-Line Sport and Tackle, and spent an excellent four hours on the lake catching loads of Brook and Rainbow Trout and just generally enjoying the beautiful scenery. The small boats have an intimate, less intrusive feel, and all the guides were super nice. If you don’t like fishing, I’d definitely recommend getting on the water somehow. You can rent canoes or kayaks at the lake, but they’re pretty expensive at the lake – you can rent a boat for the entire day in town for about the same hourly price you can rent one at the lake (you just have to carry it on your car). Or you can be like us and bring your packrafts. Portable and free! I’m obsessed with them.
