There are two great covered bridges in close proximity – the Bath Bridge and the Swiftwater Bridge (the Bath-Haverhill Bridge is also close by, in neighboring Woodsville). Unfortunately, the Bath Bridge was closed for repairs and renovations when we were there (it has since reopened). Luckily, the Swiftwater Bridge is there too, so my covered bridge dreams were not completely squashed. I’m not sure why I like covered bridges, I just do. As an added bonus to two great covered bridges, you can also stop at The Brick Store, reportedly America’s oldest general store. They have famous smoked meats and cheeses, and also homemade fudge. Fudge is usually sufficient to convince me to visit anything.
