This hike is a classic – fairly steep and somewhat exposed, it’s terrifying for most average hiker-types. If you’re bothering with this website, you’re probably not an average hiker-type though, so it will just seem like a bit of fun. The trail starts out with a wide, paved trail on a steady incline up to Refrigerator Canyon. If it’s warm out, the cool of the canyon will feel like blessed relief, giving you a little break before reaching a series of switchbacks known as “Walter’s Wiggles,” before eventually emerging at Scout’s Lookout, which is where the Angel’s Landing fun part starts. To get to Angel’s Landing, you have to hike across – and up – a narrow spine of rock, with sheer drops on both sides, ascending 500 feet. It’s a really cool piece of geology. Chains and guard rails have been included at all of the sketchy spots, and the spine is actually fairly wide, so it doesn’t really feel that exposed. And the views are just breathtaking. The 360 degree panorama from Angel’s Landing is something you have to see in person to appreciate. Highly recommended.
