We love the mountains of North Carolina – they actually get a fair amount of snow here in the winters, have stunning fall foliage displays in the autumn, are blessed with a sea of dogwood and cherry blossoms in the spring, and offer cooler temperatures and dense forests to escape to in the summer. The relatively low population density means that there are large sections of land where rare plants can flourish in the temperature rainforest, and there are so many waterfalls you could dedicate a year to visiting them. Add opportunities for climbing, whitewater kayaking, fly fishing, and numerous charming towns with historic appeal and active arts scenes, and you may find yourself never wanting to leave.
