Originally built in 1965 but renovated more recently, Húsafell has a great collection of geothermal pools you can visit. The pools have varying temperatures and the cooler ones are large enough to swim in. Best yet, they have a super fun long slide into one of the cooler pools. It’s a great way to end an evening (or kill time before going Northern Lights hunting), particularly if you’re staying at Hotel Húsafell. It’s well worth staying here for a night or two, because they’ll wake you up for the Northern Lights and your chances of seeing them out here are improved – there’s not a lot of light pollution and the lava fields at Hallmundarhaun are a wonderful place to photograph the lights if you get them.
