I keep finding this waterfall referred to as “secret”. I guess it’s secret by comparison with Seljalandsfoss which is a stone’s throw away, but you’ll still find a steady stream of visitors going into this one. Maybe it’s secret because you can’t really see the waterfall until you’re inside the canyon and right on top of it. Whatever the case, this is a neat stop and a nice change from the other waterfalls, because you enter a narrow canyon opening and hike a few meters back to where the canyon opens up and the waterfall drops down from above. Some people will poke their heads into the canyon entrance and then turn back, unwilling to walk in the water or rock hop or face the terrifying prospect of being misted by the waterfall (perhaps they spent a lot of time on their hair that morning). You probably won’t be in here alone, but it’s certainly more intimate than its neighbor. There’s also a fun use trail that runs up the hillside to the right of the canyon opening, from where you can climb up and look down on the falls – there’s a little exposure on some parts of the hike up, but there are chains provided to make it safer.
