It’s worth it to visit Skógafoss, because you want to come to this area anyway – but what you’re really here for is Kvernufoss, which is only a couple of minutes away. This waterfall is our kind of stop. We weren’t really sure where we were supposed to be parking (this waterfall isn’t signed in any way) so we just ditched our car in the back corner of a paved lot and climbed across the fence at an accessible point, then headed across a field on an easily discernible use trail. We were the only people out here. After crossing some lovely rolling hills for a few minutes, we turned up a small canyon with a river running through it, and at the back of the canyon you can see Kvernufoss, which is kind of like a smaller (but better in my opinion because of the idyllic location and no people) version of Seljalandsfoss. You can even hike behind it. Perfection. Those dummies over at Skógafoss are missing out.
