Lake Sabrina (pronounced Sa-bri-nuh, not Sa-bree-nuh…no idea why this is) wouldn’t be a choice destination in our life except for the fact that the fall colors here are sublime. It’s also conveniently located near the trailhead for the excellent Bishop Pass Trail (from whence you can hike to Long Lake or continue over Bishop Pass to Dusy Basin), making it a delightful stop in the fall amongst other activities. Nearby North Lake and the approach roads to both lakes also provide delightful foliage viewing and photography options, which typically peak in early October. I typically try to plan a trip to the area in late September or early October, when the high country passes are still easily navigable, and then start checking the California Fall Color blog in early September for updates on where the best colors can be found. If you really want colors and you miss them here, Aspendell typically peaks later, and Bishop will peak even later still.
