Epic Travel → North America → The West Coast → Northern California → Death Valley → Devil’s Golf Course
Location: South of Furnace Creek, Death Valley
Time Required: 10 minutes
Red Tape/Notes: Access to Death Valley is $25/vehicle for a 7 day pass. The Devil’s Golf Course is accessed via a short (1.3 mile) dirt road that’s generally accessible for most vehicles (although not recommended for vehicles over 30 feet, per the National Park Service)
What’s Nearby?: Harmony Borax Works, Zabriskie Point, Artist’s Palette, Badwater Basin, Ashford Mill Ruins
Providing a stark contrast to the landscape featured in the nearby Artist’s Palette and Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes, the Devil’s Golf Course is a vast field of rock salt that’s been eroded into spires. Find an area with lots of salt crystals and bend your ear to the ground to hear the pops and pings of salt crystals exploding as the expand and contract. This is the kind of desolate and harsh landscape you’d imagine from a name like “Death Valley”.
