If you’ve been doing long days tramping or had a rough day ice climbing, these hot pools are a nice option to take a breather and relax for an hour or two. Entry to the main pools is free with any of the glacier tours with Franz Josef Glacier Guides, just remember to bring your own towel to avoid paying to rent one (or having to dry yourself with your clothes…that’s always awkward). The three main pools typically range in temperature from warmish to hot (36 to 40 C), and are essentially large, organically shaped hot tubs, set in a scenic rainforest. No, they’re not as cool as Iceland’s Blue Lagoon. But they are super relaxing (and much cheaper).
