This is another iconic Iceland spot – Jökulsárlón is a glacial lagoon, with calm blue water dotted with icebergs which have broken off from the nearby glaciers. The glaciers float past, melting slowly and occasionally rolling (which is rather exciting to watch), as they drift out to see via the narrow channel that exits the lagoon (the remnants of the icebergs wash up on the Black Sand Diamond Beach). The transient nature of the icebergs means that Jökulsárlón is constantly changing – sometimes there are lots of icebergs, sometimes not as many, sometimes they’re huge, sometimes they’re smaller – you never know what you’re going to get, but it will always be beautiful. The calm nature of the water means that you have a good chance of beautiful reflections from sunrise, sunset, or even the Northern Lights.
