Kirkjufell is one of those mountains that you’ve probably seen photos of and didn’t know what it was. It’s one of the most photographed places in Iceland, due to its prominent location and the proximity of some very pretty waterfalls that create a really lovely setting. Apparently you can also hike up it – we didn’t do this because we were on a frenzied drive round the peninsula, but if you’ve got more time it would be worth checking out. At the very least, you should take the short walk up to the waterfalls for the fabulous vantage point offered from the hillside.
