Tampa Bay Area

First confession: most of these places are in Sarasota, which is about an hour south of Tampa Bay. Second confession: we haven’t done a great job of really exploring the area in a way that would be helpful for visitors – Tom’s parents live in Sarasota and as such, we spend a lot of time with family and a lot of time doing things like hanging out at their ranch, working on projects in the garage, or sailing our Hobie Cat. While these are awesome activities for us (and you’re welcome to join us if you happen to be in the area when we are), we’re not familiar with the options for doing these activities if you don’t live here (they must exist, though – let us know if you’ve tried any!). We are familiar with the places listed in the “destinations” section below, though, and would recommend all of them.
Some other classic Sarasota activities are visiting Siesta Beach (regularly named as one of the top beaches in the US), looking for alligators (Myakka River State Park is a great spot for this), and if you’re here over the 4th of July, Marina Jack puts on a great fireworks show. Images from these spots, as well as some pictures of “our Florida” are included here for reference.
