The Channel Islands of California consist of the islands in the Channel Islands National Park, and four other more southern islands, the most well-known of which is Santa Catalina Island (or just “Catalina” to locals). The islands are rugged and beautiful, providing and stark and refreshing contrast to their coastal Southern California neighbors – hop on a ferry from the Los Angeles area and in an hour you’re in another world. The islands offer great hiking, kayaking, and diving, or you can relax and stroll shops and restaurants in the adorable historic resort community of Avalon.
